This is a bit depressing. We are getting to the point where Artificial Intelligence is adding benefits to our society and one of the first things that we get are autonomous…weapons.
Hasn’t anyone in the UK government seen the Terminator movie franchise?

Hi, I am a student in college and I want to learn about Artificial intelligence.
Can you tell me the prerequisite things that I have to learn in order to learn it starting from the basics.
Also can you suggest any good books?
Thanks.
P.S. Your blog is great. I just found it.
: )

Thanks for your comments.
In order to learn about Artificial Intelligence, you will need to understand a bit of mathematics (typically algebra and calculus).
It doesn’t matter too much if you haven’t coded before but it helps to be able to follow algorithms written in psuedo-code.
As for books, the standard text is by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig, “Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach” (http://www.amazon.com/Artificial-Intelligence-Modern-Approach-Edition/dp/0136042597).
I also like George Luger “Artificial Intelligence: Structures and Strategies for Complex Problem Solving” although it is a bit expensive. (http://www.amazon.com/Artificial-Intelligence-Structures-Strategies-Complex/dp/0321545893/).
Lastly, I also like Simon O. Haykin “Neural Networks and Learning Machines” (http://www.amazon.com/Neural-Networks-Learning-Machines-3rd/dp/0131471392/).
There are lots of other books in various areas of AI, so it’s best to start with one of the general introductions and see what you like.
