In the Wall Street Journal today, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son is quoted as saying that computers would soon surpass human intellectual capabilities. He based his prediction on Moore’s Law (that the number of transistors on a chip would double every two years), as this Law approaches it’s 50th anniversary.
Moore’s Law Will Bring Emotional Machines.
Elsewhere though in the same newspaper though, there is a report that this law is hitting a limit. The cost of designing chips with such a high density of transistors is growing rapidly. So emotional machines may be further way than Mr. Son hopes.
